Abstract:One hundred and twenty three strong wind processes over the Bohai Sea region from 1981 to 2012 are simulated using the WRF model by ERA-interim, and climate characteristics of different weather situations are analyzed. The results are as follows. 1) The WRF model can well simulate the evolution characteristics of the strong wind processes over the Bohai Sea region. 2) The intensity of strong wind processes over the Bohai Sea region caused by northwestern cold front are stronger than that by other processes. The strong wind processes are mainly over the western sea area of Liaodong Peninsula, the Bohai Strait and the eastern sea area of Shandong Peninsula. Compared with strong wind processes caused by the cold front, the distribution characteristics of those caused by the Yellow River cyclone are obviously different, which are mainly over the eastern sea area of Shandong Peninsula and Yellow Sea areas. Strong wind processes are relatively weak overt he Bohai Sea. 3) There is obvious seasonal variation in strong wind processes. The duration is long and the wind speed is high in autumn and winter, followed by those in spring, and those in summer are the least. 4) The maximum wind speed of strong wind process is gradually increasing over the Bohai Sea and decreasing over the southern sea area of Shandong Peninsula and to the east of the Bohai Strait.
