Abstract:The characteristics of typhoon activities in the western North Pacific and the South China Sea in 2024, as well as the typhoon tracks, intensities, wind and rainfall conditions that have great influence on China are summarized and analyzed statistically. The data used include the real-time operation data of the Central Meteorological Observatory and the best track data of the China Meteorological Administration. The analysis results show that a total of 26 typhoons were generated in the western North Pacific and the South China Sea in 2024, which is basically the same as that of the usual year. The generation regions are further north and west, the generation time was more concentrated and active in autumn. A total of 8 typhoons landed in China's coastal areas, more than the average climate; The landfall sites are concentrated in the coastal areas of East and South China, among which the number of typhoons landing in Taiwan and Shanghai is obviously higher than that in normal years. The average intensity of the initial landings is stronger, and the total landings are more. Typhoon YAGI is the strongest typhoon to land in China in autumn since meteorological records. There were 468 rivers in 25 provinces have exceeded warning level, typhoon GAEMI caused a large range of long-term heavy rainfall in northeast, North China, Jiangnan, Southwest and other areas.
