Abstract:Marine ranching represents a new model of fishery production and a novel format within the marine industry, playing a pivotal role in the transformation and upgrading of China"s marine fisheries. However, marine ranches are susceptible to disastrous weather conditions such as typhoons, rainstorms, and extreme heat. Meteorology is inextricably linked to the scientific site selection, planning and layout, habitat restoration, resource conservation, and safety assurance of marine ranches. Strengthening the meteorological support capacity for marine ranches is of great significance in ensuring loss reduction and income increase across the entire industrial chain of modern marine ranches, as well as in constructing a modernized marine ranch industrial cluster. This paper analyzes the current status and existing issues of meteorological support for marine ranches in China. It proposes countermeasures and suggestions for enhancing meteorological support capacity from multiple perspectives, including strengthening top-level design for meteorological support capacity building in marine ranches, improving marine meteorological observation and forecasting capabilities, expanding service scenarios for meteorological support in marine ranches, establishing broader multi-party collaborative mechanisms, and reinforcing talent development and academic disciplines related to meteorological support for marine ranches. These efforts aim to better safeguard the high-quality development of marine ranches.
